Few questions - interview with STRANGULATE

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc. ?

The band was formed around 2011..it started of as a grindcore side project the sole reason being to use my material as they were not well received by the band i used to play back then(Purgation)..We played shows now and then and people seem to like what we did..But that was it..Due to drummer issues we had to stop..The band got together after Purgation broke up in early 2014 with a new lineup and a good friend of mine Subhasish Mitra helping us out with vocals and has been do us till date..though the band has been through line up changes like a million times..Subhasish and i worked things out and here we are playing pure old school death metal Cannibal Coprse being our biggest inspiration.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

Some of the riffs were written back in 2011..like the intro riff to Primordial Execution and Orchestrated Massacre..Writting began around June 2014 before the band played live with their new sound and lineup..Songs like Barbaric Decadence(inticially called A tale Of Rage)...the momentum of our song writting process slowed after a lineup yet again after playing 3 shows..Then early 2015 i started writing new material at home, in front of my laptop and was pretty much done by June of 2015..though the song Blood and Bones was written when we were in the studio recording our drums..process got delayed as our drummer back then was not good enough to lay down our tracks..so we decided to programme drum tracks and then a friend of mine decided to help us out and live drums were recorded there after..Hence Prakash Paul did do a great job by helping us out with drums..Tushar Banerjee was incharge of our sound from the get go and he also mastered it.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

150 copies has been released by Transcending Obscurity..and there are digital copies you can download from Bandcamp under TO

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

Lyrics were written by Subhasish Mitra..I had ideas in my mind when the songs were written..We both are big fans of Cannibal Corpse and love the Gore aspect of death metal..Songs like Primordial Execution, Mysogiynistic Horror, Catacombs Of Decay i had the intial ideas from get go as per how the songs should go and Subhasish did a great job by writting them down. The others well, Subhasish had some ideas of his own and I find them killer.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

The logo was created by Shekh Rizwan(ex weapon drummer) and our artwork was created by Jaydeep Bairagi..Well our Facebook page is managed by me and Subhasish at times but when it comes to talking to organizers and people interested in booking us i handle the dealings..

Well to me the only way to spread music internationally is through social media..Well things have changed..people don't go to music store and buy music or check out bands...they sit in front of the computers and check them out..so social network is really important for bands these days to get their music across.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why that label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

Kunal Choksi of Transcending Obscurity contacted us after we have sent him our songs..he liked our stuffs and decided to realse us under his Sub Label..And as of now I’m happy with the way things are going. Kunal is doing a great job with the distribution of our cd's and our promotion internationally.

Which bands do you idolise and from where do you get your inspiration?

Well that's easy...Cannibal Corpse..Both Subhasish and I love the Chris Barnes era..we like the new Stuff too..Subhasish being a Big George Fisher fan..We like the old school raw death metal sound which bands like Autopsy, Deicide, Cancer, Morbid Angel, Malevolant Creation had. That in your face death metal with a Bit of Thrash Metal element going on in there..Brutal

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

When the album was done our intentions were to release it independently. I did approach Slaughterhous(USA) Salute Records and Transcending Obscurity. Well, labels these days are not keen in signing new upcoming bands..but Kunal(Transcending Obscurity) is doing a great job in singing new bands and helping them out.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

To be honest, there not not too many gigs happening in India these days..Organizers are not interested in promoting new bands and the metal scene in india is dying..Older bands are playing in clubs and venue..That being said when there was a scene here in Kolkata (India). We played in each and every one of them. Metal is not that big in india as compared to the rest of the world. We prefer the club shows because of the energy that comes from the crowd.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

Well I've been writing new materials as of now and planning to hit the studio by the end of October..Planning to release our 2nd full lenght by June 2017.As a band our goal is to get our music out there as much as possible and tour as much as possible.
