Few questions – interview with thrash metal band from Costa Rica - CHEMICIDE.
Ave, can you introduce your band to
our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you
play , etc.?
A/ Frankie Vocals & Rhythm
guitar, Sebastian Lead Guitar, Jairo Drums, Jorge Bass Guitar. We
started the band back in 2006 but we started playing until 2007. We
had several lineup changes; lots of drummers and 2 bass players. We
always had the idea of playing music like Sepultura and Kreator so
we decided to play thrash metal and we’ve been doing that ever
since.
Where and under what conditions
were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound,
production and mastering?
A/ So, we started writing this
album around September last year with the motivation of releasing a
faster and more aggressive record. We decided to work with a
different producer and a different engineer this time, our producer
was Alfonso Perez from the bands Insepulto & Dream of Fire and he
was in charge of listening to all of our ideas and pretty much
helping us decide what to keep and defining the sound of this record.
Our engineer was Juan Pablo Calvo from the band Times Forgotten and
he’s the owner of Bushido Audio Productions; he’s input and
knowledge are invaluable when it comes to this record; he’s
experience helped us with the recording of this album in many ways.
Both of these guys were a key component to making this project a
successful one and also delivering a good album.
How many copies were released and
which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl,
cassette)?
A/ As far as we know there will be
500 copies of the CD which you can order through
prcmusic.bandcamp.com and it’s also sold digital through our
bandcamp page (chemicide.bandcamp.com)
Who is the author of the lyrics and
how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?
A/ I (Frankie) write all the music
and lyrics for the band; it makes the process a lot easier because
it’s faster and I can do it at any time (even at work). This album
talks a little bit more about social injustice and how people are
affected by the decisions of their governments, there’s a lot of
violence out there and too many people suffering; regardless of their
religion, age or ethnicity, everybody is going through pain all
around the world. So, I wanted to explore more of that and hopefully
spread the message around so we can do something together about it.
Who created the logo of the band,
and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and
social networks? Do you consider these things important?
A/ The logo was created by
Alexander Ramirez a friend from the band, he has designed a lot of
them for many Costa Rican bands, so when he offered his assistance on
helping us creating one for us, we agreed. The bandcamp page is
designed by Sebastian he takes care of that. And social media is
important cuz a lot of people around the world can connect with us
regardless of where they are. It’s important to be available for
everybody.
Which label did you choose for
releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how
your label represents you and takés care about you?
A/ So, were working with Canadian
label PRC Music since our last album and it’s been the best,
they’ve supported us and have helped to deliver our music in
different formats and a lot of countries around the world. We
couldn’t be any happier with them, they’ve gone above and beyond
for us and our label mates.
Which bands do you idolise and
where do you get your inspiration?
A/ Well, there’s a ton man, but
Sepultura, Pantera, Old Metallica, Kreator, Vio-Lence, Ramones,
Misfits, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Slayer, D.R.I
Did you send your record to some
Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?
A/ I did send some old demo tapes
to a few labels. I think it I sent them to Metal Blade, Road Runner
and Earache but I got no response, I mean it was a long shot but I
still wanted to try.
How many gigs have you played?
Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals)
and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
A/ We’ve played way too many
shows, more than I can remember honestly, they’ve been awesome most
of them and the reason why is the people; they can either make the a
hell of a show or just make you get down, you know? It’s all about
the energy and aggression you bring to each performance, if they can
relate to ya, well that’s it man, you’re in for a treat! I like
playing clubs cuz you see everyone next to ya and it gets intense but
festivals are great too, there are more people and it’s always cool
to be part of them. I think the best show could’ve been the one
that where I lost part of my right ear hearing. That was a blast!
What about your plans for the
future? What do you want to achieve with the band?
A/ Well for this year at least, go
to Canada and hopefully Mexico to play a few shows up there and
spread the word. Maybe next year Europe, who knows, we’re taking
one step at the time.
