A few questions – interview with brutal death metal band from Switzerland - CONSUMED BY VULTURES

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc.? 

Hi fellow metalheads, we are Consumed By Vultures a death metal band from Switzerland. Our band was founded in 2013 by Mattia La Delfa and Alex Medici. We produced 1 Demo, 1 EP and our last work is an album titled “In Eterno”. Our style is a bit hard to classify because every band member has a different musical background. Given all the different infleunces within the band the resulting sound is hard to sum up, but you could say we play death metal with a bit of slam, black and brutal riffs. 

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

We recorded the album at the “Brainscan Studios” in Riva San Vitale – CH, then Christian Donaldson (guitar player of Cryptopsy) took care of the mix and mastering at “The Grid studios” in Canada. We didn’t have a professional producer. 


How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

We first pressed 500 copies on CD which have almost sold out, we will be printing more due to the demand. We have also published the album on Bandcamp, iTunes Store and Spotify.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with? 

Alex and Simone (vocals) are in charge of the lyric writing process. The concept of the album explores the human condition and deals with the growth of a man from his birth to his death. It places an emphasis on the dualism of the human being which is portrayed through the character’s mental evolution with the use of metaphors. The idea was born from the sick and twisted minds of our majestic duo of singers.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important? 

The band’s logo was created by the indonesian artist “Rudi Gorgingsuicide Art Yanto”. The “In Eterno” artwork was hand painted by “John Quevedo Janssen Ilustrador” from Venezuela. We currently do not have a Website although we do have a presence on bigcartel. We use socials networks mainly to stay in touch with our fan base and to communicate with festival organisers, promoters and venues. We believe social networking can be over used by bands for commercial reasons which isn’t a huge motivator or driving force for us.


Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We chose to release our album under “Nice To Eat You Records” because they are a well known underground label in Europe. We are very satisfied with our working relationship and very much looking forward to our future collabortion with them.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

As mentioned previously we have varying backgrounds but a few groups to point out, which we all relate, are bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Dimmu Borgir, Visceral Disgorge, Slipknot and old school thrashers like Sepultura and Slayer.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

No, we haven’t done this as of yet.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best? 

We played roughly 15 gigs. We think that each type of venue has its own atmosphere and character. Most Festivals tend to have a better sound but you sacrifice the close contact and interaction with the audience you typically get at smaller venues. We loved our gig at Linz Deathfest 2017, we were on top form and the crowd were amazing and full of energy.


What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

Our goal is to keep playing around the world and we plan to release a new album in 2019, We are currently working on a professional videoclip. We hope to increase our fanbase and keep having fun.

 Už jedou, jedou pro tebe. Sanitka s divnou sirénou se řítí tmou, smogem a beznadějí. Nemocnice na kraji města, v opuštěné čtvrti. Naloží tě na nosítka. Sestřička s úchylným úsměvem, sen každého chlapa, ti pustí žilou. Svět náhle zčerná a probudíš se až na operačním sále. Pitvání živých těl přináší spoustu potěšení. Obzvlášť, když jsou doktoři jedni z neprověřenějších, EXHUMED.

 Letos přicházejí s dalším albem, ostrým jako čerstvě nabroušený skalpel. Kdo bude další na řadě? Kdo bude exhumován? Hlásím se dobrovolně.


"Death Revenge" je nebývale pestrým albem. Mísí se v něm v zajímavém poměru death, grind, thrash metal. Vše je dávkováno s citem, zkušenostmi, odhodláním, se shnilou jiskrou v oku. Skladby jsou narušovány kousky vážné muziky a nahrávka tak občas ztrácí sílu. Připadá mi chvílemi roztříštěná. Jinak ale nemám žádných námitek. Vše odsýpá jak má, krve by se ve mě při poslechu nedořezal. Klip ke skladbě "Night work" nechá vzpomenout na slavné riffy SLAYER a METALLICY. Nijak mi to nevadí, zbytek songů je totiž tou správnou očistou mého mozku. "Death Revenge" možná některé fanoušky trošku zpočátku odradí, ale věřte tomu, že časem album vyroste do pořádně krvavé podoby. Líbí se mi zvuk, obal i určitá neurvalost a rebelie, které z jednotlivých záseků slyším. Rád budu opět pokusným tělem v nemocnici plné šílených doktorů. Poctivá pitva v podání těch nejpovolanějších. Velmi dobré album!

They're coming, they're coming for you. The ambulance with a strange siren is rushing through darkness, smog and hopelessness. Hospital on the outskirts of town, in an abandoned neighborhood. You will be put on a stretcher. A nurse with a grinning smile, the dream of every guy, draws blood from the vein. The world suddenly turns black and you wake up at the operating room. Performing autopsies of living bodies brings plenty of pleasure. Especially when the doctors are one of the most entrusted, EXHUMED.

This year they come with another album, sharp as a freshly sharpened scalpel. Who's next in line? Who will be exhumed? I am a volunteer.


"Death Revenge" is an unusually varied album. It blends in an interesting portion of death, grind, thrash metal. Everything is done with feel, experience, determination, with a rotten spark in the eye. Tracks are disturbed by bits of classic music, so recording sometimes loses power. It looks fragmented for a while. Otherwise, I have no objections. Everything is draining as it should be. The "Night Work" music movie remembers the famous SLAYER and METALLICS riffs. I do not mind, the rest of the songs are the proper purgation of my brain. "Death Revenge" may be can disappointing some fans, but believe that the album will grow into a bloody appearance. I like the sound, the cover and the certain rigidity and rebellion that I hear from each of the mistakes. I'd love to be an experimental body again in a hospital full of mad doctors. Honest autopsy made by the most entrusted. Very good album!

Ave NEOCAESAR! Od února letošního roku máte venku novinku s názvem 11:11. Přiznám se, že pro mě byla obrovským překvapením. Kope pořádně, to vám povím! Zajímavé bylo, že jsem se k vaší nahrávce dostal jako za starých časů, přes doporučení od kamaráda. Žádný facebook, internet. Jak vidíte album s odstupem času vy? 

Ave Jakube! Předem díky, že jsi nám poskytl možnost tohoto rozhovoru. Na album jsme velmi hrdí a to z důvodů, které najdeš níže v odpovědích na tvé další otázky. Cílem k vytvoření tohoto alba byla snaha šířit hudbu, kterou všichni hrajeme rádi a nejlépe. Dát každému, kdo se zajímá o náš death metal, příležitost si ho poslechnout, a nebo koupit. A samozřejmě také, aby si nás všimli, že jsme kapela, abychom mohli hrát nějaké koncerty. Prozatím je naše mise splněna. Prodali jsme nějaká CD fanouškům a sběratelům, dostali jsme nabídky odehrát několik výborných akcí a naše hudba je ke stažení na internetu, takže naše hudba je také dostupná pro fanoušky, kteří se rozhodnou poslouchat nás digitálně.


Jakým způsobem nová deska vlastně vznikala? Jste parta maniaků, kteří si prošli spoustou kapel. A to ne ledajakých, jedná se o samá slavná jména. Neměli jste problémy se svými egy? Skvělí muzikanti pohromadě, to nemusí dělat jen dobrotu). Zajímal by mě samotný proces vzniku nových skladeb.

Všichni jsme zkušení a víme jak hrát na naše nástroje. Nemáme mezi sebou žádný problém s našimi egy.

Ve skutečnosti to všechno začalo, když se mě Mike zeptal, jestli mám čas udělat projekt - napsat pár skladeb a najít další lidí, kteří by to s námi nahráli. Neměl jsem moc času, ale podařilo se nám napsat čtyři kompletní skladby a další skladby rozpracovat. Nastal čas, aby jsme dali dohromady sestavu a pak jsme spolu s Michelem a Ericem dokončili čtyři další skladby a napsali zbytek.


Za vším stojíte sami. Album jste složili, udělali obal, ale i vydali. Nehledali jste nějaký label? Pomohl by vám s propagací, s rozšířením mezi fanoušky. 

Snažili jsme se sehnat label, ale vyjednávání s labely trvalo moc dlouho. Po nějaké době bylo CD připraveno a stále jsme nenašli label, který by Neocaesar vyhovoval. Takže už jsme nechtěli déle čekat a rozhodli jsme se, že album vydáme sami. Nyní máme radost z toho, že jsme podepsali smlouvu s nahrávací společnosti XTREEM ze Španělska, které vydá album” 11:11” 5. prosince.

Jak vlastně vznikla první myšlenka, založit NEOCAESAR? Vím, že jste se potkali a znáte se z jiných kapel (třeba SINISTER), ale mě by zajímal ten první popud, nápad, zdroj. Nevím proč, ale tipoval bych nějakou malou hospodu v Holandsku, dobré pivo…a vás, kteří se po pár kouscích začnete bavit o tom, jak založit novou kapelu?:)

Tahle myšlenka existovaa už delší dobu, přesně, jak říkáš. Je to asi tak deset let zpátky. Ve chvíli, kdy jsem asi po deseti letech potkal Mika a ožrali jsme se u něj doma společně s Michelem a Rachel. Uvědomili jsme si, že jsme byli skoro celá stará sestava Sinister a pomysleli jsme si, že by jsme založili kapelu, která je skutečně “Sinister” v pravém slova smyslu…. Takže to byly noční opilecké kecy. Až v roce 2013 mě Mike vážně požádal, abychom společně založili novou kapelu.


Kdo je autorem textů k 11:11 a o čem pojednávají? Kde pro témata berete inspiraci?

Mike je zodpovědný za všechny texty, takže ho požám, aby odpověděl:

(Mike): Inspirací pro mé texty beru z každodenního života, z věci, které jsem četl, když jsem hledal odpovědi na neznámé, z vizí a okultních textů. Texty, které píšu, jsou příběhy, které mohou vyvolat uvědomění. Někdy se musíte zastavit a pozorovat, co se kolem nás děje. Malé věci, ale i větší. Spousta věcí je nám skrytá kvůli náboženství, nebo jen proto, aby lidi jen hloupě následovali. Ostatní se ztratilo v čase. Je to opravdu velká skládačka s velmi malými kousky. Pro mě je způsob, jak se k těmto malým kouskům dostat, prohledavat internet, YouTube a knihy.



Kdo je autor obalu novinky 11:11? Jeho práce se mi hodně líbí. Jak jste vůbec motiv na obal vybírali? 

Mike měl nápad, že si vyrobíme vlastní pečeť, opravdu si to vymyslel. Umění znamená ovládání moci a chaosu. V pečeti je vše, co reprezentuje chaos. A spojení všeho vytváří úžasnou sílu. Pečeť je tvorba z dávných dob. Nemůže být zničena jednotlivcem, pouze prostřednictvím jednoty. Kolují zde síly stvoření, síly chaosu a dávných vizí. Neocaesar je jednota, vstup a vzestup. Texty jsou příběhy, aby uvědomění získalo sílu. Vize, které by se mohly stát, vize z temné minulosti a ty, které budou hybnou silou v budoucnosti.



Skvělý je zvuk celé nahrávky. Je temný, hutný a ostrý zároveň. V jakém studiu jste album nahrávali? Mluvili jste jako kapela do výsledného zvuku, masteringu? 

Díky Jakube, budeme to brát jako kompliment, protože jsme si všechno nahráli sami. Do studia jsme vůbec nešli. Bicí jsme nahráli sami během několika dní v malé zkušebně mého kamaráda. Kytary / basy / zpěvy jsme nahráli u mě, v malém prázdném pokoji, který mám. S několika radami od mých známých jsem se naučil mixovat a masterovat sám doma a zvuk staré školy je to, na co jsme se zaměřili.


Jste už dnes pamětníci. Když porovnáš vaše začátky a současnost, změnila se doba hodně? Myslím tím teď přístup fanoušků, labelů, promotérů apod. Často slýchávám, že „už to není takové, jako to bývalo“. Co si o tom myslíš ty?

Hahaha, je legrační, že to říkáš. Na našem posledním českém mini-tour jsem si všiml, že obecně máme stále stejné publikum jako před 25ti lety, Jen jsou teď o 25 let starší, stejně jako my. Rád potkám každého fanouška zvlášť, potřesu si rukou nebo prohodím pár slov a dobře se spolu zasmějem. Co se týče labelů, promotérů atd., tak samozřejmě se to změnilo. Bylo by děsivé, kdyby bylo všechno stejné, tak jak to bylo...

V současné době si většina lidí nová alba stahuje z internetu a používá jen jeho digitální podobu. Jak vidíš tuhle problematiku ty? Zajímal by mě tvůj pohled jako muzikanta.

Je to pokrok, který nemůžeš zastavit. Pro menší kapely se stává těžší vydat CD, protože se prodá jen několik kopií. Je to přizozený vývoj, který akceptujeme a jsme s tím smíření.

V říjnu jste absolvovali turné s českými HYPNOS po Česku a Slovensku. Osobně jsem vás viděl v Českých Budějovicích a musím říct, že vaše vystoupení bylo vynikající! To byl koncert jak vystřižený z devadesátých let! Jak jste si turné užili vy? Co říkáš na naše fanoušky? 

Mělo to koule! Hrát naživo je to, proč to všechno děláme. Bylo to skvělé a všichni fanoušci, se kterými jsme se potkali byli úžasní a přátelští. Ty taky Jakube, docela jsme se nasmáli u baru, ne? 


Když se podíváme na holandskou death metalovou scénu, tak z mého pohledu se jedná o něco skvělého. Spousta vynikajících kapel, časopisů, labelů. Ale tak to vidím já z Čech. Vy žijete přímo uvnitř. Jaká vlastně doopravdy death metalová scéna v Holandsku je?

Máme tady dobrou scénu. Spoustu příležitostí vidět kapely živě a taky tu máme spoustu festivalů. Jsem rád, že žiji v Holandsku.

Co chystají NEOCAESAR v nejbližších měsících? 

Hlavně budeme koncertovat a shánět další příležitosti hrát živě. Začátkem roku 2018 začneme psát nové skladby.

Ave NEOCAESAR! Your album “11:11” has been released since February 2017. I have to admit, that this album was a big surprise for me. It really kicks, let me tell you! The interesting thing was, that (like in the good old days) I listen to the album because of my friend´s recommendation. No Facebook, no internet. How do you feel about this album since it has been out for a while?

Ave Jakub! First of all, thanks for giving us the opportunity for this interview. We are very proud of the album, for reasons that you will find below in the answers to your other questions. Our goals for making this album were to be able to spread the music we all like to play best, give anybody who is into our type of death metal the opportunity to listen to it and/or buy it. And also to get noticed as a band so we could get some shows. For now: mission accomplished. We sold some CD’s to diehard fans and collectors, got some pretty good shows and now our music is downloadable on the internet, so our music is also available to metalheads who choose to listen to it digitally.

How did you made the new album? You are a band full of maniacs who have played in many other bands. And not just any bands but there were only famous bands. Have you ever had any problems with your egos? You are great musicians and you are together which does not have to be a good thing sometimes :). 

Musicwise, we’re all experienced and we know how to play our instrument. We have no trouble in dealing with each other’s ego’s.

I would like to know the whole process of creating a new album and writing songs. 

Actually it all started out when Mike asked me if I had some time to do a project; to write a couple of songs and find some people to record the songs with. I didn’t have much time available, jet we managed to write 4 complete songs and we had more songs in the pipeline. It was time to complete the line-up. Then with Michel and Eric we finished the 4 songs and arranged the rest of the songs.

You do everything by yourself. You composed the album, made the cover and published it. Have you thought about searching for a label to help you with promotion, and to be more known among fans?

We have tried to get a label, but it all took a long time negotiating with these labels. After a while, the CD was ready and we still didn’t find a label to suit Neocaesar. That’s when we didn’t want to wait any longer and decided to publish the album ourselves. By now, we are pleased to have signed a deal with XTREEM records from Spain. They will release the album 11:11 on December 5th. 

How did the first original idea of founding NEOCAESAR happened? I know that you met and know yourself from other bands (for example from SINISTER) but I would like to know the first idea, the impulse, and the source of founding the band. I do not know why but I think that it must have been some small pub in Holland, good beer…and you who started to talk to each other about founding a band after a few beers. :)

The actual ideas existed for a longer period already, like you say. It must have been like 10 years ago. A little while after meeting Mike again, ending about a decade of no contact, we were getting drunk at Michel’s place. Actually we were partying with Mike, Michel, Rachel and me. We noticed that we were almost the old Sinister line-up and thought we should start a band that is the real Sinister. It was a drunk night’s talk. Just in 2013 Mike seriously asked me to start a new band together.

Who is the author of your lyrics on 11:11 and what are the lyrics about? Where do you find inspiration for the topics?

Mike is responsible for all the lyrics, I’m gonna ask Mike to answer this:

(Mike) The inspiration for my lyrics I get out off everyday life, things I read when I search answers from the unknown, visions and occult texts. The lyrics I write are stories which can create awareness. Sometimes you must stop and observe what is happening around you. The small things but also the bigger picture. Lots of things are hidden from us due to religion or just to keep the people stupid to follow. Others got lost in time. It’s a very large puzzle with very small pieces. For me the way to get those pieces is to scour the internet, YouTube and books.


Who did the cover for 11:11? I really like it. How did you choose the motive?

Mike had the idea for making our own seal, he really thought it through. The art stands for controlling of power and chaos. In the seal, there’s all a different representation of chaos. Put them together and it creates an amazing power. The cover seal is a creation from ancient times. This can not be wheeled by one, but only through unity. As it wheels power of creation, forces of chaos and ancient visions. Neocaesar is an unity, an entry and the rise. The lyrics form an alignment with the seal and are tales to get more awareness of the powers. Some of visions which could have been, others from a dark past and others will be a momentum in the future. 


The sound of this album is great. It is dark, dense and sharp at the same time. In which studio did you record the album? Were you able to have any comments as a band about the final sound and mastering?

Thanks Jakub, we will take that as a compliment, as we did all recordings ourselves. We didn’t go into a studio at all. We recorded the drums ourselves in a couple of days in a small rehearsal room of a friend of mine. The guitars/bass/vocals were done at my place, in a small spare room that I have. With some tips of acquaintances I managed to do all mixing and mastering myself at home. The old-school sound is what we aimed for.

Today, you are more like veterans. When you compare your beginnings and the present, do you think the time has changed? I mean the attitude of fans, labels, promoters, and so on. I often hear that “it is not the same as it used to be”. What do you think?

Hahaha, funny that you say so. On our last Check mini-tour I noticed that we generally still have the same audience as 25 years ago. Only now they’re 25 years older, as are we. I enjoy meeting every single person that I get to talk or hang out with and have a few good laughs with. About the labels, promoters and so on; of course it has changed. It would be creepy if everything was still the same as it was…

Nowadays, many people download music online and they only use its digital form. How do you fell about this issue? I would like to know your musician´s opinion. 

It’s an evolution you cannot stop. It gets harder for small bands to make a CD, as it will only sell a few CD’s. It’s natural progress and we accept it and deal with it.

In October, you had a tour with Czech band HYPNOS around the Czech Republic and Slovakia. I saw you perform in České Budějovice and I have to say that your performance was excellent! The concert was like from the 90s! How did you enjoyed the concert? What do you think about Czech fans? 

I had a blast! Playing live is what we do it all for. We had a great time and all people we met were awesome and friendly. You too Jakub, we had a few good laughs at the bar didn’t we?

When I look on the Dutch death metal scene, I feel that it is really great. A lot of great bands, magazines, labels. But that is how I see that as a Czech person. How is the real death metal scene in Holland?

We have a good scene. Plenty of opportunity to see bands live, and we have a lot of festivals. I am glad to live in Holland.

What are NEOCAESAR´s plans for the next few months?

Especially play shows and look for more shows. Beginning 2018 we will start with writing new songs.

 Malý křížek u cesty s obrazem Panny Marie. Touha zažít rozhřešení. Chodíval sem každý den. Modlil se, rozjímal. Zmítal s ním vnitřní boj. Nemohl se rozhodnout a nevěděl, že nedaleko se odehrávaly temné obřady plné okultních sil. Nakonec podlehl volání vlastní krve. Peklo se ukrývá v každém z nás!

 AVENGER, jméno nejen na české black/death metalové scéně více než známé. Letos přicházejí s novým albem, bez tympánů, s novým vokalistou. Jsou trošku jiní než jak je známe z dřívějších nahrávek, přesto jasně definovatelní, s vlastním originálním rukopisem. Obraťte prosím všechny kříže směrem dolů, staří rouhači se vrátili. Mocně a hlasitě. 

 

Na "Mír v harému smrti" nejvíc oceňuji především velký cit kapely pro černé melodie a atmosféru. Člověk si opravdu připadá jako při rozhovoru s nějakým našeptávačem. Album má velmi dobrý zvuk, i když osobně bych jej klidně trošku víc ušpinil. Na nového zpěváka jsem si musel chvilku zvykat, ne ve všech momentech je mi jeho hlas příjemný, ale byla to otázka několika poslechů. Ošklivý je obal, příliš mi nevyhovují některé rozjímací pasáže. Jako celek je ale nahrávka velmi dobrým kovovým zásekem. AVENGER zdá se nestárnou, jsou dál plně oddáni základním myšlenkám kacířství. Znát je to hlavně v textech, které jsou opět skvělé. Zase tak moc českých kapel je v rodném jazyce neumí. Asi se večer vydám do nedaleké kaple, obrátit pár nevěřících na pravou černou víru. Velmi dobré album!

He couldn´t decide and he did not know that not far enough were happening dark rites full of occult powers. In the end he succumbed to the calls of his own blood. The Hell is hiding inside each of us!

AVENGER, this name is well known not only on the Czech black/death metal scene. This year they came with a new album, without drums and with a new vocalist. They are a little bit different than we know them from their earlier albums but you can still recognize them. They have their own signature. Please, turn all crosses upside down, the old burglars returned. Loudly and significantly.


What I like the most about the album “Mír v harému smrti” is the great feeling for black melodies and atmosphere which this band has. Man really feels like he talks to a whisperer. The album has an amazing sound but personally, I would appreciate to have the sound dirtier. I had to took some time to get used to the new vocalist because his voice was not the best for me at some passages, but for me it was just about listening to it for a few times and then I get used to it. The cover is ugly, what is not the best for me are the meditating passages. As a whole, the album is a great metal punch. AVENGER do not age. They are fully devoted to the basic ideas of heresy. You can especially tell from the lyrics which are amazing, as usually. There is not a lot of bands who know how to do that in the native language. I think I will go to a nearby chapel in the evening to turn a few unbelievers to the real black faith. Very good album!

 Mám na stole hromadu CD k recenzím. Čekají na mě, lákají k poslechu. Zavřu oči a abych byl spravedlivý, tak nechám rozhodnout náhodu. Vytáhnu italské death metalisty KARNAR, vložím je do přehrávače a prohlížím si booklet. Nejdříve kývám jen tak hlavou, očekávám další z řady stejných progresivněji laděných death thrashových alb. Jenže pak mě ta změť riffů zaujme. Přitahuje mě, láká k opětovným setkáním.

 Jedná se teprve o první EP kapely, které má být ochutnávkou, návnadou. Musím říci, že na mě funguje. Objevuji stále nové nápady, líbí se mi zvuk (s přihlédnutím, že je to prvotina). Snad jen ten obal by chtěl trošku víc propracovat. To jsou ale drobnosti, které se dají odpustit. Hlavní je hudba a ta je nebývale pestrá. Skrz klasický death thrash se jako nějaká pavučina rozpínají progresivní prvky. Výsledný dojem je vyloženě podmanivý. Tedy alespoň pro mě.


Pro mě osobně hlavní a nejdůležitější věc, kterou z "Take Their Heads" cítím, je obrovská porce roztodivných emocí a nálad. Italové zacházejí s progresivitou a technikou velmi citlivě, zbytečně to nepřehánějí. Hlavní je pro ně vždy nosný riff, melodie a hravé prvky jsou dávkovány s rozumem. Troufám si tvrdit, že o téhle smečce ještě uslyšíme. Líbí se mi takové to hmatatelné nadšení a energie, které můžete potkat na každém kroku. Občas se sice kapela nevyhne chvilkovým monotónním pasážím, ale to bych přičítal celkové produkci, která by zasloužila ještě doladit. Každopádně, KARNAR jsou pro mě velmi milým překvapením. Tenhle progresivní technický death thrash metal totiž řeže tou správnou stranou čepele! Doporučuji!

Italská, progresivní death thrash metalová kapela KARNAR, je skupinou, ze které doslova tryská talent na všechny strany. Jejich album "Take Their Heads" je po okraj narvaný nápady, energií a tlakem. Pokud rádi u hudby přemýšlíte a ochutnáváte z pestré palety bohatého talíře extrémního metalu, bude vám určitě chutnat. Fascinuje mě lehkost a samozřejmost, s jakou je EP nahrané. Poslech je srovnatelný s pohledem do kaleidoskopu. Pestré riffy, zajímavé bicí a všemu nasazuje korunu vokál, vytažený až odněkud ze samého nitra. Songy působí velmi vyrovnaně, chutně, naléhavě a přesto jsou až uklidňující. Album se tak pro mě stává jakousi meditací. Progresivní death thrash metal, který připomíná průlet vesmírem. Vynikající záležitost. Noblesníl! Doporučuji!

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc.?

Replies "Marius" (Composer - Guitar):

The Karnar project officially begins in 2016, but the production of material and the search for lineup starts a few years ago. Our style is not easily be framed in a single sector, We try to do something original, with different influences that are mainly attributable to Death / Trash metal.

Where were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

We record almost all by ourselves. Guitar and bass were recorded at home; voice and drum, in a recording studio. The sound, mix, produce and master were treated by myself (Marius - guitar). We think that a self-produced CD is more satisfyng.


How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

All the songs of "Take Their Heads" were released in a digital version, fully available on our Youtube channel. Soon we will print the cd in a limited edition to propose it to the public during live.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with? 

The lyrics are written by Ale and talk about human condition, how people get influenced by the media, superstition, church and politics; the message we would like to convey is simple: stop believing what they want you to believe and think with your own mind.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important? 

The logo was created by a friend of ours, then it has been slightly modified. Cover art is a design that was made by a Novara artist and friend, Giorgio Manzini aka "Green Man". It was made using only a simple black pen, a job that can require many months. The social networks are extremely important and can help us.



Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takes care about you?

In this moment we do everything without labels. We do self-promotion, and we try to find contacts and let us know through the web. I do not rule out a collaboration with any label.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

I have been inspired by many bands but I can mention Death, Blundering, Atheism, Carcass, Sepultura. 


Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

No, we chose not to send the material to anyone. We want to focus only on ourselves.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best? 

We are also working for that. Unfortunately Italy is not ready for our musical genre, "but also for metal in general". The clubs are really few, and the emerging bands make a huge effort to find dates to be able to play. For the moment we can confirm the date of September 24th at Cassano D'adda (MILAN), "The One Metal Live", as Guest on "BE UNDER ARMS".



What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

In this moment our only goal is to make concerts. Soon we will try to produce another video clip for our Youtube channel.
